Renewing Your Medical Assistance Coverage

Medicaid eligibility changes will impact all Medicaid recipients. Stay informed!

On April 1, 2023, Pennsylvania ended continuous coverage for Medicaid recipients. Medicaid is also known as Medical Assistance or MA in Pennsylvania. The continuous coverage requirement was initially put in place because of the national Public Health Emergency related to COVID-19.

UPMC for You wants to share information to help our members stay informed about this change. If you are a UPMC for You member, you should take the following steps to renew your Medicaid coverage after the continuous coverage requirement ends.

Getting quality care is important to you and your family. With UPMC for You, you have full in-network access to health care providers at UPMC, plus other doctors and hospitals in your community.

Our award-winning Health Care Concierge team* delivers fast, personal service. Plus they work hard to answer your questions on the first call. The dedicated UPMC for You Health Care Concierge team can help you renew your coverage. Or they can answer your benefit questions. Call 1-800-286-4242 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. TTY users should call 711.

3. Online tools for taking charge of your health

As a member, you can access care and information when you need it, on your schedule. Our online tools include:

  • MyHealth OnLine, our secure member website. You can log in to manage prescriptions, get your ID card, or live chat with a health coach.
  • The UPMC Health Plan mobile app, which lets you manage your health on the go. Download it today from the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
  • RxWell offers programs across a variety of wellness topics, from stress, depression, and anxiety management to nutrition, weight management, and physical activity. No matter your wellness goals, RxWell can help. Download the RxWell mobile app at the iTunes App Store or Google Play.
  • With UPMC AnywhereCare*, members can have a video visit with a UPMC provider from a computer, tablet, or smartphone—day or night. This convenient, time-saving service works well for colds, the flu, sore throats, rashes, and other nonemergency conditions. The UPMC AnywhereCare telemedicine platform also offers care specifically for children through UPMC Children’s AnywhereCare**. This service allows newborns to 17-year-olds to have virtual visits 24/7 with UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh providers over live video. Pediatric care specialists can diagnose, provide treatment options, and prescribe medication for many nonemergency illnesses.
    • *UPMC for You members located in Pennsylvania at the time of service will have a virtual visit with a UPMC-employed provider, subject to availability and discretion of the provider. Members located outside of Pennsylvania at the time of service will receive care from a provider employed or contracted by Online Care Network II P.C. (OCN), also known as Amwell Medical Group. OCN is not an affiliate of UPMC. During the COVID-19 emergency declaration, UPMC for You members located outside of Pennsylvania will receive service from OCN. After the COVID-19 emergency declaration, UPMC AnywhereCare virtual visits are not covered services when UPMC for You members are traveling outside of Pennsylvania. Providers are not available to treat members who are in Puerto Rico.
    • **UPMC Children’s AnywhereCare is available only to patients who are in Pennsylvania. In order for a child to have a UPMC Children’s AnywhereCare visit, the child’s parent or legal guardian must be with the child during the video portion of the visit, and the child and parent or legal guardian must be in Pennsylvania during the visit. If you are located outside of Pennsylvania at the time of service, you may select the standard UPMC AnywhereCare module and you will receive care from a provider employed or contracted by Online Care Network II PC (OCN), also known as Amwell Medical Group, at the discretion of the provider. OCN is not an affiliate of UPMC. During the COVID-19 emergency declaration, UPMC for You members located outside of Pennsylvania will receive service from OCN. After the COVID-19 emergency declaration, UPMC AnywhereCare virtual visits will not be covered services when UPMC for You members are traveling outside of Pennsylvania. Providers are not available to treat members who are in Puerto Rico.
